The I-Share catalog provides access to the collections of the libraries in the CARLI consortium, without having to go through the Library's Interlibrary Loan Department. Books that are requested through I-Share are charged out to you on your IIT ID card. You will be responsible for all due dates, renewals, and fines. Borrowing Materials
There are two ways to borrow materials in the I-Share catalog. The first is with your IIT ID card. Simply take it to any library that participates in the consortium, and you can check out a book. Click here for a list of member libraries.
The second way uses the catalog. Start by searching for a book in our online catalog. If we don't have it, click on the "Repeat search in the I-Share Catalog" link. This will perform your search in the consortial catalog and let you know if any of the other libraries have the book. You can place a request for the book with the "Request" link at the top of the screen. In a few days, the book will arrive at the circulation desk, where you can pick it up.
Interlibrary loan is still available for access to materials not owned by the Downtown Campus Library.
ID Cards
To borrow books through I-Share, faculty and students must have a valid IIT student ID card from Chicago-Kent Law School, Stuart School of Business, or main campus.
Loan Period and Renewals
Loan periods for books borrowed through I-Share vary based on the lending library. You will be given a date due slip at checkout. Renewals must be made through the "MyAccount" feature in the library's online catalog. Renewals, like loan periods, are controlled by the lending library. Downtown Campus Library staff cannot renew I-Share items for patrons.
Returning books
Books may be returned to the Service Desk or the book drop near the Bursar's Office.
Fines
The fine schedule for I-Share materials is controlled by each lending library. Fees must be paid to the library owed and cannot be paid at the Downtown Campus Library. Unpaid fees can restrict your ability to make future requests or borrow materials.
