Instant Messaging

Definition

Instant Messaging (IM) - A form of immediate, electronic text communication between two or more users who are all online simultaneously. Parties must all have IM accounts and connect through IM service.

Doing and Teaching Legal Research

Many law libraries are offering reference service by instant messenger. Note that IM is best for quick questions or ready reference. For more in-depth questions, phone reference or even in-person visits are best.
