Library Guest Lectures

The reference librarians participate actively in the instructional program of the Downtown Campus. In the Chicago-Kent Legal Research and Writing program, librarians regularly provide lectures on specialized legal research subjects. The online tutorials and guides for those classes are available here.

Reference librarians are also available for specialized lectures on print and online materials or paid vs. free sources of information. To arrange an in-class research instruction session, contact Tom Gaylord:

Course Websites

For more information about various course website options and linking to the library's electronic resources on course websites, please visit the "Course Websites" page in our Course Resources section. Full-time and adjunct faculty from both schools can speak to Debbie Ginsberg to review course website options and learn how to link to articles available through the library's databases:

Chicago-Kent Faculty: For full-time faculty, Vince Rivera (vrivera@kentlaw.edu) and the faculty administrative assistants can help set up course websites. Adjunct faculty in the Legal Research and Writing program should contact Alice Curry (acurry@kentlaw.edu) to set up TWEN sites.

Stuart Faculty: Since Stuart uses the Blackboard system for classes, faculty should consult the OTS FAQs for Blackboard for support and questions or contact Chris Perry (cperry@stuart.iit.edu) for other technology questions.

Faculty Course Reserves

Books and articles needed for class can be temporarily placed in the Library's Faculty Course Reserves so that they will be available to all students with a special 3-hour checkout period. Articles can also be digitized for use on faculty course pages or placed on reserve in print. Faculty may place items on reserve for the current semester by contacting their library liaison or by contacting Maribel Nash:

Putting Items on Reserve

Instructors' personal copies of books may be placed on reserve, with few exceptions. These items will be labeled and bar-coded, and will probably sustain more than average wear and tear. It should be noted that, while the Library makes every effort to ensure that instructors' personal books are not stolen or damaged, this does sometimes happen. Under no circumstance is the IIT Downtown Campus Library responsible for the replacement or compensation for the lost or damaged material.

Please keep in mind that there can be potential delays in placing items on reserve:

  • Items not owned by IIT Libraries: Depending on availability, it can take two weeks or more for a book to be ordered, acquired, cataloged and processed for reserve. Articles from journals not owned by the Libraries must be acquired through Document Delivery / Interlibrary Loan.
  • Items not currently available: Library books may need to be recalled from a user, located, replaced or shipped from the bindery.

Removing Items from Reserve

Items are automatically removed from Reserve at the end of each semester, unless prior arrangements have been made for your class. Photocopies and personal copies of books will be returned to the faculty member’s office.

Exam Database (Chicago-Kent only)

To assist Chicago-Kent students studying for exams, the DTC Library provides a secure, kentlaw login only, database of sample exams from previous years. You can login and view exams using your email username and password here:

Only sample exams that faculty have chosen to release are included and not all faculty choose to participate in this program. If you would like to provide a sample exam for the exam database, please contact Debbie Ginsberg:

Full-time faculty may also contact Vince Rivera, the faculty support supervisor, at vrivera@kentlaw.edu to provide exams in print or via e-mail.

Room Reservations

The study rooms in the library are for student use only, but faculty can reserve the Library computer labs or the Library LIR Boardroom. The computer labs are located on the 7th and 9th floors and the LIR Boardroom entrance is in the 8th floor outside the library, near the main elevator lobby.
