Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is available to all current Downtown Campus students, permanent faculty, and adjuncts during the semesters in which they teach. ILL can be used to borrow most books that are not owned by the Downtown Campus Library or to obtain a copy of an article not available in the Library.
Books that we cannot borrow include: textbooks, commercial outlines, archival papers, most dissertations, popular fiction, movies, and other non-scholarly works. Articles from newspapers or journals that are available online or through one of our e-resources are also not eligible for interlibrary loan.
To make an ILL request, use this form or email illreq@kentlaw.edu. You may also make requests directly form WorldCat or our SFX link resolver. Include your name and enough information about the material you need so that we can find it for you. If you are requesting an article, include: the article title, journal name, volume number, date, and page numbers. If you are requesting a book, include: the book title, author, volume (if applicable), edition, and date. Law Review students should contact the Law Review staff person responsible for library relations before placing a request if the request is for an article cite check.
Before making a request, please check our online catalog to be certain that the Library does not own the item. Also check to make sure that the item cannot be obtained through one of the online databases maintained by the Library. Please note that Interlibrary Loan borrowing is limited to school-related purposes only.
Please be aware that ILL requests typically require up to two weeks to fill. Please submit requests for materials well in advance of your deadline. You will be notified via email when your item arrives or if the library cannot obtain a copy of the article or book you requested.
Photocopies obtained via ILL may be kept. Books must be returned to the library by the marked due date. Renewal requests can be made using this form or by sending an email to illreq@kentlaw.edu. Requests for renewals must be submitted at least 2 (two) days before the due date. Renewals requests are granted or denied according to the policies of the lending library.
Check the status of your ILL requests.
If you have any questions about requesting ILL materials, please ask at the Reference Desk.
All requests must be made through OCLC or an ALA form. The Downtown Campus Library belongs to CLAS, ILCSO, and LVIS. Our OCLC symbol is ILK. Our ILDS Route is Chicago PL-1A. We are a reciprocal lender.
