COMMITTEE PRINTS

Committee Prints are research reports on proposed legislation which are provided to or commissioned by a committee considering a bill to give background information, including conclusions and recommendations.  They often include section-by-section analysis of legislation.  Prints are usually prepared by committee staff, the Congressional Research Service, or outside consultants.  Committee prints are rarely issued - there will not be one for every bill - and those that are issued are generally not widely distributed and can be difficult to locate. A few suggested sources:

• CIS/Index, KF49 .C62, 6^th Floor
• GPO Access includes a limited number of Committee prints from the 105^th Congress forward (1997 - present)
• Sometimes prints can be found on House Committee and Senate Committee Web sites.
• LexisNexis Congressional, (formerly Congressional Universe) from the Library's Electronic Resources page (accessible on campus or off campus with valid network ID and password), carries many prints from the 103^rd Congress forward (1993 - present).  
• Lexis carries selected prints from the 104^th Congress forward (1993 - present).  To find these, select the Legal tab, then choose Federal Legal - U.S., then Legislative Histories & Materials.
