Empirical Research Tutorial

OTHER STATISTICS

Statistics on the weather, environment, health, crime, and other areas can be used by attorneys to strengthen the credibility of their clients' cases. For example, Abraham Lincoln once successfully defended a client in a murder trial by using an almanac to show that there was not enough moonlight for the key witness to have seen anything. Much statistical information can be found online and in print resources such as scientific reports, scholarly journals, newspapers and periodicals, and almanacs.  For example, the World Almanac (AY67 .N5 W65- Reference Desk) provides information on everything from sports to historical anniversaries, awards, health, nations, presidents, religion, sex, statistics, and weather.
