For Chicago-Kent full-time faculty, Vince Rivera (vrivera@kentlaw.edu) and the faculty administrative assistants can help set up course websites. Adjunct faculty can get assistance from Debbie Ginsberg (dginsberg@kentlaw.edu)

For Stuart faculty, IIT's Blackboard course management system is currently the only option available. Please consult the OTS FAQs for Blackboard for support and questions or contact Chris Perry (cperry@stuart.iit.edu) for other technology questions.

Below is a summary of the four options available for course websites. If you want additional information about the pros and cons of these options, contact Debbie Ginsberg, Educational Technology Librarian, at dginsberg@kentlaw.edu

  1. Basic HTML websites (these can be set up quickly, but they are limited to uploading documents and linking to web resources.)
  2. IIT's Blackboard course management system - the only option currently available for Stuart Faculty.
  3. Lexis-Nexis Web Courses
  4. Westlaw's TWEN (only TWEN offers online sign-up sheets)

Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw sites are only available to Chicago-Kent faculty. To arrange for one of these sites, contact either Debbie or our vendor representatives. Jonnell Simpson (Jonnell.Simpson@lexisnexis.com) will help you create Lexis-Nexis Web Courses, and Stacey Acquavella (stacey.acquavella@thomson.com) will assist you with setting up a TWEN course page.

If you experience any problems with your course websites, please contact either Vince or Debbie, who will address the problem as quickly as possible.

Using Electronic Resources in Course Websites

The Library encourages faculty to use our electronic resources for law school and business school coursework. Please be aware, however, that if you use links to subscription electronic resources from the Library website or from Lexis and Westlaw, sometimes these links will not work without special formatting.

Linking to a Database:

To link to one of our electronic resources available from the Library’s website, please use the link found at http://library.kentlaw.edu/eresources/. For example, to link to JSTOR, use this URL: http://libproxy.kentlaw.edu/login?url=http://www.jstor.org/search. Do not use http://www.jstor.org

To copy a link, right-click on the name of the database and then select “Copy Shortcut”. This will copy the URL, which you can then paste into your syllabus or website. Do not click the link and copy the URL directly from the browser.

Linking to Articles in a Database:

To link to an article within a database, you will need to add http://libproxy.kentlaw.edu/login?url= to the front of the URL. A typical URL to an article will look something like this:

http://libproxy.kentlaw.edu/login?url=http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=0017-811X%28200205%29115%3A7%3C1763%3ABRG%3E2.0.CO%3B2-U

If you have any questions about our electronic resources, please contact our Educational Technology Librarian, Deborah Ginsberg (dginsberg@kentlaw.edu, 312-906-5673).
